Come to Jesus and Find Rest

A recent poll from the American Psychiatric Association revealed that anxiety levels of US adults has continued to grow over the from 32% to 43% in just a few years. According to those numbers, almost half of the population struggles with anxiety! Why are Americans more anxious now than ever?

The 2024 results of the American Psychiatric Association’s annual mental health poll show that U.S. adults are feeling increasingly anxious. In 2024, 43% of adults say they feel more anxious than they did the previous year, up from 37% in 2023 and 32% in 2022. Adults are particularly anxious about current events (70%) — especially the economy (77%), the 2024 U.S. election (73%), and gun violence (69%).

Perhaps we are coping in other ways that are less effective, like contributing to Netflix’s 14% growth in 2024. Binging, bed rotting, doom scrolling… they just don’t work at taking away our anxiety. In fact, social media is actually contributing to our anxiety!

In our anxiety drive world, perhaps we need to look somewhere else for help! Jesus says that He will provide rest if we ‘come to him’. If we examine His words in more detail we can discover how to find a different type of rest than we find in all the other means that the world provides.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

- Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus Invites You To Rest With Him

Jesus extends a personal invitation: "Come unto me…". Whether you’re burdened by stress, guilt, or the weight of the world, He offers rest that no one else can. While we often turn to temporary distractions like entertainment or hobbies for relief, the true rest we long for is spiritual, not physical.

Jesus Will Take Your Cares Away

Jesus promises to take your burdens and exchange them for peace. He doesn’t ask you to clean up your life first—He simply says, ‘bring your baggage and I’ll do the rest’. Through prayer and trust in Him, we can find relief from the constant anxiety that our world is crippled with today.

Jesus Will Teach You A New Way of Life

Jesus says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me”. To follow Him means embracing a new way of living—one marked by humility, peace, and trust in God’s plan. Submitting to His ways involves letting go of harmful habits, aligning yourself with godly influences, and finding freedom in the truth of God’s word.

Jesus Promises An Everlasting Rest

The result of coming to Jesus, casting your cares, and taking His yoke is life-changing: “ye shall find rest unto your souls”. This rest isn’t just a temporary relief; it is a lasting peace that sustains you through life’s challenges and gives hope for the future.

Do You Find Your Rest in Him?

Jesus doesn’t just offer advice—He offers Himself as the solution to our deepest struggles. His rest is available to everyone, regardless of your past or current circumstances.
